Last week in Maastricht

Our last week was packed with sight seeing (for me), school (for kids and Pearce) and evenings out...

Also during our last week in Maastricht the Korb Grands arrived. They would spend our last week in Europe with us. Their first night we took them to a fun restaurant in a neighborhood called the Wyck directly West of the train station. The Wycker Cabinet restaurant is a fun take on modern Limberger cuisine, including the famous white asparagus this area is known for. The food was delicious and Hendryx welcomed his grands with a full force tantrum.

The next day was the kids last day of school so I took the Korbs on a whirlwind tour of Maastricht. We started with breakfast on the main square where they sampled some Vlaii and traditional mint tea while watching the market come to life.

We next jumped on the cutest little "train" ride around the town. The Zonnetrein is totally solar powered and super quiet so it can go in parts of town that other tourist operation can't go. It was pretty fun, but a bit hard to hear because of the speaker volume. I think we were most shocked when we saw a dead giraffe which ended up an artistic statement on our treatment of the environment/animals.

After walking around the town some more and picking up some University Swag for Pearce, we headed to a late lunch at Petit Cafe Moriaan where we snagged a primo outdoor table and an incredible charcuterie plate.

Proost!

Love this pic!
Our sampler of cheeses, meats, and hot dishes

Thursday evening, (Andy and Susan's second night in town, so mad props) we headed to a nearby restaurant that got rave reviews from a close friend of Susan's. Chateau Neercane is a Michelin star restaurant which sits about 15 minutes outside of Maastrict in the rolling hills. It ended up being one of our favorite memories of the trip!

Off to our double date adventure

We were seated outside on the patio- it was perfect weather for this

So romantic
Loving life!

My other date

Some Mom time

After an ah-ma-zing dinner we got to take a peek in the cellars that were built into the limestone hillside. It was very beautiful in all the candlelight. There was a huge private party going on that we thought about crashing, but decided to call it a night.

The next morning Pearce finished his last day of school there and the rest of us headed out to do a little more sight seeing. We first headed to a playground to let the kids stretch their legs a bit and then we headed to the market for a quick walk through. On our walk we passed the small indepedant beer distributor Hoppy Brothers so we bought a growler for Pearce to sample. We also picked up a whole vlaai Bisschopsmolen to take on the road (maybe not my best idea). The bakery is beyond delicious and they still have a the old water wheel used to mill the flour. I picked the forest fruit and it was
delicious!

How could anyone resist this?!

Our last evening was spent in the same square and the same restaurant we started our adventure in!
