First Day of School Disappointment
May 22, 2018
Today was Pearce's first day of school (he had Whit Monday off) and was supposed to be the kids' 1st day too, but the cargo bike we were going to borrow ended up needed a new wheel and wasn't ready yet. It was really sad news because I was really looking forward to mastering it while I was here. It was way too far to walk pushing the two kids in the stroller, even for me, and there wasn't easy-ready public transportation to take us there either. I decided to go see if I could get a rental car earlier (we were going to get one this weekend) so I could get the kids to and from school. We hoped on a bus, after waiting 30 minutes because I screwed up the timing, and headed off to the Enterprise we rented the Benz from last year. And for those who didn't read last year's blog. This car was one of the highlights of the trip for me last year. Driving on an autobahn in it was EVERYTHING. Spoiler alert. We got another Benz.
I think in general they are more common in Europe, but also because there in a Benz factory in Maastricht. This more than made up for the disappointment of the bike not being ready. Since it was already halfway through the day I decided to get some errands down. We needed groceries and a few other household items for our stay here. I remembered that there was an IKEA in a nearby town, which up until now was an unachievable distance, but now with the car I could check it out. I was curious to see how similar it was to our and if they had a "kids watch" which they did.
So I picked up some house stuff and a few gifts and the kids got to play for an hour. Win win. We then headed to the grocery store where I got an obscene amount of American groceries- we have a "giant" fridge this time so why not?! The rest of the day we spent indoors out of the rain enjoying arts and crafts and rough housing. By the time dinner time came around they were wiped out.
